WhatsApp Aims to Add the Most Anticipated Feature with Spotify

The popular messaging app is working on developing a new feature that will allow users to share songs directly from the “Spotify” app to their statuses. Currently, the feature is in the testing phase on the Android system.

This feature aims to go beyond the traditional sharing of song links provided by the app by integrating “Spotify” music directly into WhatsApp statuses.

This move is intended to simulate the Instagram Stories experience by offering visual previews and interactive buttons, with a coordinated design that strengthens the links between WhatsApp and music streaming platforms, according to Infobae.

How Will “Spotify” Appear on WhatsApp?

Previously, sharing music on WhatsApp was limited to sending a direct link to a contact or group without any visual customization or additional interaction. With the upcoming update, users will be able to post songs from “Spotify” directly to their statuses.

When selecting a song on “Spotify,” a new option will appear allowing users to share the song as a WhatsApp status, in addition to the usual sharing options like sending it via private or group messages.

The displayed status will include a preview of the song with the album cover, song name, and artist. The background will be customized to match the dominant colors of the cover image, and a “Spotify” play button will direct users to the app to play the song.

This experience is very similar to what “Spotify” offers on Instagram, where users can post songs in their stories with song data and replay links. However, WhatsApp, due to its high level of privacy, focuses on maintaining strong encryption and protecting user privacy.

Ensuring Privacy

Users will be able to post shared songs in their statuses without worrying about unauthorized access to the content. Just like messages, photos, and videos on WhatsApp, statuses containing songs from “Spotify” will be fully encrypted.

This ensures that the content remains protected, and no third party, including WhatsApp, will be able to access the shared songs or know the content of the statuses, except for the authorized people who can view them.

How to Use the Feature

Once globally launched, this feature will allow any WhatsApp user with a “Spotify” account to select a song and share it via “WhatsApp Status.”

A preview of the song will be automatically created with all graphic elements such as the cover, song name, and artist, along with an interactive button. The user will be able to adjust the background and select who can view the status, just like any other content posted.

Future Expectations

This feature could pave the way for integrations with other music platforms like “Apple Music” or “YouTube Music,” although no official confirmation has been made yet. For now, the integration with “Spotify” will be launched first.

While there is no official global launch date yet, the feature is currently only available in the developer beta version on Android, and WhatsApp is expected to reveal more details as the testing phase progresses.
