Why Does Coughing Intensify at Night?

On the other hand, colds, allergies, and certain types of cancers, such as lung cancer or head and neck cancers, can also contribute to nighttime coughing. Additionally, mesothelioma, a cancer associated with asbestos exposure, can manifest with persistent coughing.


To treat and prevent nighttime coughing, it is important to maintain body moisture and keep the airways moist.

Doctors also recommend using a humidifier or taking steam showers to alleviate the severity of the cough. Additionally, raising the head with extra pillows and using honey and over-the-counter remedies can help alleviate its annoyance.

Doctors advise that if the cough persists for more than 3 weeks or is accompanied by fever, chest pain, or difficulty breathing, individuals should consult a doctor for necessary tests to determine the cause.
