Away from Arab identity.. Qatar launches first 2022 World Cup songs
Several years ago, months before the 2022 World Cup began, the first World Cup songs came out of Qatar in disgrace; it does not express an Arab identity at all, which caused widespread outrage on social media.
The first official music release of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was released this evening. The song, “Let’s Go We Are Better Together”, is the first official music video for the World Cup, and will be released before the World Cup draw.
The music video featured singer Trinidad Cardona, Davido, and Aicha on the effects of R&B and reggae, and will play a key role in the final draw of the tournament tonight.
The song was performed by Nigerian-American singer and producer David Adigi Adilic (Davido), Qatari artist Aisha, and American singer Trinidad Cardona.
According to a statement by FIFA, the song symbolizes the ability of music and football to unite the world; Moroccan artist RedOne was appointed director general of FIFA’s entertainment services.
The song sparked a wave of outrage among Qataris on Twitter; a qatari woman wrote: “Rejoice, people, an international wedding in Qatar, and some are all interested in a sweet song! No. He doesn’t represent us! Strange fate and!! Rejoice in this global marriage, with its negatives and positives, sweet and bitter, in our heritage, in our Arabism, in our universality.” While another writes: “The song #Let’s Go We Are Better Together disappointed the Arab masses, we wish it was an Arab song or it had Arabic words”.
A third confirmed: “Qatar’s 2022 World Cup song is frankly the worst song I’ve ever heard, it’s been interpreted as a YouTube ad that started and you close it.”
