Monkey pox: France now has 440 confirmed cases, a second child probably infected
Public Health France takes stock this Tuesday, June 28 on the Monkeypox epidemic which has been spreading in Europe since the spring.
This Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in France, 440 cases of Monkeypox were confirmed: 312 in Ile-de-France, 30 in Occitanie, 29 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 21 in New Aquitaine, 16 in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Aur, 16 in Hauts-de-France, 7 in Normandy, 3 in Brittany, 3 Grand-Est, 1 in Centre-Val-de-Loire, 1 in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, and 1 in Pays-de-la-Loire.
The epidemic now extends throughout the country.
Of the 399 cases confirmed as of June 27, 2022, 358 have been the subject of specific health monitoring, 5 are unreachable or have refused to answer the questionnaire and 36 are under investigation.
Among these cases under epidemiological surveillance, a first case concerns a child attending a primary school in Ile-de-France. He was taken care of and shows no signs of seriousness. A probable case has been identified within the same siblings.
In a press release published on Monday, June 27, the WHO noted “the urgency of the event” particularly in Europe where the health risk is considered to be “raised”.
The WHO considers that the risk to public health remains moderate at the global level. However, at the regional level, the risk becomes raised for Europedue “of a geographically widespread outbreak”. For scientists, the situation “requires intense response efforts”.
Adult cases confirmed as of June 22, 2022 are between 19 and 71 years old (median age: 35 years).
