Al-Kadhimi and Stoltenberg Meeting… Iraq and NATO Strengthen Security Cooperation


Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi discussed several issues during his meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in New York.

The Prime Minister’s Media Office said the meeting reviewed the efforts of Iraqi forces in combating terrorism and pursuing its remnants, and the successes they achieved on the ground, and reflected positively on the establishment of security and stability in the country.

The meeting also focused on strengthening security and military co-operation between Iraq and NATO countries, which provide training and advice to Iraqi forces, the statement said.

According to the statement, the two sides expressed their “shared desire to continue and expand co-operation, strengthen security and information exchange, and support Iraq’s efforts to spread calm in the region.”

Earlier, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed bilateral relations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

According to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry’s statement, the two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and means to promote them to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi left the country on Monday to take part in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Political observers expect that Iraq will receive international support during this participation in important areas, including the fight against terrorism, corruption, and sovereignty violations.
