The hell of war… Shells rain down on residential neighborhoods in Sudan and the people cry for help

The Sudanese Doctors Syndicate said that 19 people were killed and 106 others were injured in a bombing on a market in a poor area south of Khartoum.

Witnesses reported that six tank shells were fired from the tree, targeting the Mayo neighborhood, an area not known to be close to any military target.

Hell of war

According to the Guardian, Mayo is an impoverished area mostly inhabited by people who have not been able to leave the capital since the start of the war between the Sudanese army and their paramilitary rival the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 15 April.

“Cases are increasing and medical staff are under pressure to deal with a lot of cases with a limited number of staff, and we are calling on all doctors and nearby medical staff to come to the hospital so that they can help as much as they can,” the doctors’ group said in a statement.

“It is already the worst day I have seen since the beginning of the war, scenes that I will always remember of women, children and men in bad condition,” said Abdul Muttalib Sabun, a resident of the area who volunteers at the nearby al-Bashayer hospital.

“No one can leave here,” said Mohammed Zain, a resident of Mayo. “All our relatives are here, they can’t flee.”

Violation of truce

U.S. and Saudi mediators blamed both sides for violating the truce, which was supposed to provide safe corridors for aid to increasingly needy residents.

“More than 1,000 people have been killed in Khartoum and thousands more injured in the war between the two forces, and in West Darfur State, electricity has been cut for nearly two weeks, with doctors saying that 2,000 people have been killed in one of the bloodiest clashes.”
