Erdogan: Azerbaijan’s fight with Armenia was not over

During a visit to Azerbaijan on Thursday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan related that Baku’s struggle with enemy Armenia was not ended after his close ally’s decisive victory about contested region.

Erdogan declared during a military parade in Baku: Azerbaijan’s saving its lands from occupation does not mean that the struggle is over. He also said: The struggle carried out in the political and military areas will continue from now on many other fronts.

It should be noted that Turkey supported Azerbaijan during recent confrontations with Armenian forces about the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Conflicts started on September 27 and finished six weeks later with a Moscow-brokered deal so Armenia abandoned to Baku parts of the disputed territory and Azerbaijan’s adjacent districts it controlled since the 1990s.

Ankara was broadly accused of send mercenaries from Syria to boost Baku’s army, however the accusation was denied. Moreover, Erdogan arrived in Baku to join nationwide fêtes marking Azerbaijan’s victory in the Karabakh fight.

The Turkish president said in his speech: Karabakh’s freedom will be the beginning of a new era in the region. He also added that Armenia should be held responsible for war crimes committed during the conflict.
