Turkish planes landed in bases belonging to the Government of National Accord in Libya
According to Fightradar24, three Turkish military planes landed in bases belonging to the Government of National Accord in Libya with the continuous of the political efforts to constitute a new government. Indeed, the airplane landed at the Watiya and air force academy in Misrata city, just hours after that Prime Minister-designate Abdulhamid Dbeibeh promised to not cancel the maritime deal signed between the GNA and Ankara.
Actually, this is the first time that such flights arrive to the GNA since the election of both Dbeibeh and head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed al-Menfi. Otherwise, speaker of the east-based parliament, Aguila Saleh visited Morocco on Friday for discussions with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Aguila said that there is no previous opposition to the government that is being established by Dbeibeh, indicating that quorum at parliament would be achieved when it is presented to a vote of confidence. However, it has not yet decided if the legislature commission would meet in Sirte or at its Tobruk headquarters.
Furthermore, Saleh also said: We want the formation of a smaller cabinet, comprised of experts, emphasizing that the ministers should represent Libya’s three principal regions.
On his part, Bourita stated that the visit of the speaker was important given the significant role that the parliament has played in the political efforts in Libya.
Moreover, Libyan sources declared that it’s expected that Dbeibeh went to Morocco, however; he delayed the visit because of his preoccupation with internal affairs. Before his direction to Rabat, Saleh had held discussions on Thursday with an Egyptian delegation that made a surprise visit to Libya.
Besides, the speaker’s office indicated that gathering was part of ongoing preparations to form a national unity government. Nevertheless, sources noted that the Dbeibeh’s failure to present a government formation is because of the disagreements about sovereign collections. They also showed that disputes continue about the ministries of defense, interior and finance.
Also, they guessed that a personality loyal to the Libyan National Army would be designated for the defense ministry, while present GNA Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha has a high chance of keeping his post.
Dbeibeh also stated in comments on Thursday that he was committed to the fair representation of the western, eastern and southern Libyan regions in the cabinet, noting that no one would be excluded, even supporters of the former regime of leader Moammar al-Gaddafi.
On Thursday, Gaddafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, gathered with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that discussions concentrated on the latest political developments in Libya, as well as the next elections fixed for December.
