On Thursday, the Civil Defense announced that 12 people, most of them women and children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced individuals in the Al-Rimal neighborhood, west of Gaza City.

Mohamed Al-Mughayyir, Director of Medical Supply at Civil Defense, stated: “Twelve people were killed, most of them children and women, and many others were injured in an Israeli strike on the Mustafa Hafez School, which was sheltering displaced people in Al-Rimal, west of Gaza City.”

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said: “This maneuver aims to achieve two goals: bringing back the hostages and ensuring that Hamas no longer exists here. We will not retreat from this objective.”

Negotiation Details

As for the negotiations, The New York Times reported, citing an Israeli security source and a Palestinian source close to Hamas, that the proposed truce deal would include the release of 10 living Israeli hostages and the transfer of 18 bodies, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

According to the plan, the hostages would be released and the bodies transferred in five stages during a 60-day ceasefire.

The Israeli source said that, under the deal, Hamas would be asked to refrain from holding filmed “release ceremonies,” as it did during a previous ceasefire earlier this year.
