Turkey is seeking to improve relations with Saudi Arabia
On Monday, Turkey sent new positive indications to Saudi Arabia to improve their ties according to a positive agenda.
On his part, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesman and adviser Ibrahim Kalin informed Reuters in an interview that Turkey was trying to enhance ties with the Kingdom after the killing of Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul in 2018. It should indicate that last year, Saudi businessmen backed an unofficial boycott of Turkish merchandises, which has reduced the value of trade by 98%.
Kalin also said: We will seek ways to repair the relationship with a more positive agenda with Saudi Arabia as well, adding that he hopes that the boycott could be ceased. He actually welcomed the court in Saudi Arabia last year in which eight people for between seven and 20 years were imprisoned for Khashoggi’s killing.
Kalin also stated: They had a court. Trials have been held, adding: They made a decision so we respect that decision.
Indeed, Kalin’s comments are part a lately launched campaign by Turkey to resume ties with the Arab Gulf and Egypt and surpass disagreements that have left Ankara largely isolated in the Arab world.
