Open and no attack on warships: United States refutes Iran’s claims over Hormuz
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has rejected, in the early hours of Thursday morning, Iranian claims regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
In two statements posted on the platform X, CENTCOM denied both the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and any attack on a U.S. warship.
It added that Iranian claims about the closure of the strait are false, stressing that commercial maritime traffic continues to flow normally through the strategic waterway.
This came in response to an announcement by Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya military headquarters, which had claimed the strait was closed to all ships.
CENTCOM also denied Iranian media reports alleging an attack on a U.S. warship in the Strait of Hormuz.
It confirmed that no U.S. warship had been targeted, describing the reports circulating in some Iranian media outlets as false.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military launched, in the early hours of Thursday morning, additional defensive strikes against multiple targets in Iran for the second consecutive day, while explosions were heard in several regions of the country.
In a statement, CENTCOM said the strikes were carried out under the direction of U.S. President Donald Trump, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in response to what it described as ongoing and unjustified Iranian aggression.
Explosions were reported across several Iranian locations, including Sirik, Fars, Minab, Bandar Abbas, Asaluyeh, the ports of Kergan and Gorgan, as well as the islands of Kish, Qeshm and Hengam, and several areas west of Tehran. The Mehr news agency reported that “naval clashes are taking place between Iranian and American forces.”
A U.S. official told Axios that “all targets were in southern Iran and included air defense systems, radars, and drone command-and-control units.”
U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that he had direct communications with Iranian officials during the American military operations against targets inside Iran, noting that Tehran had requested a halt to the bombardments.
