An arm held by Houthis – Yemeni activists reject extension of truce
The Houthi militia continues to violate the UN-imposed truce in Yemen since last April, as Iran-backed militias are using the truce to regroup and make some gains, exploiting the other’s commitment to the truce.
Fragile truce
Informed sources revealed that Houthi continues to breach the fragile truce, which has been extended for another two months, which ends at the beginning of next month, confirming that the main objective of the two-month truce is to restructure the executive authorities in the internationally recognized government of Yemen and to reach negotiations to achieve peace in Yemen.
A report prepared by the International Crisis Group revealed that reaching the negotiations will require overcoming an obstacle that many believe must be overcome, namely dialog with Houthi terrorists, which is difficult to implement in light of the crimes the militias are involved in against the Yemeni people.
Revenge against Taiz
Despite the fact that ending the siege on the Yemeni city of Taiz is one of the most prominent and important terms of the truce agreed upon, the Yemeni city is witnessing a real disaster as a result of the siege that has been going on for seven years. Local Yemeni sites reported that the head of the government team negotiating to open the roads of the city of Taiz, Abdul Karim Shaiban, that Taiz is paying the price for its rejection of the Houthi militia’s project, and that the Houthis are retaliating the most harshly against it and preventing water, electricity and relief from it. Shaiban expressed his surprise at the opening of the port of Hodeida, and the operation of the Sanaa International Airport (subject to the Houthis) before the opening of the ports of the city of Taiz city. He considered that this move would push the Houthi militia to more intransitions towards lifting the siege on Taiz after meeting its demands from the siege after its demands from the international truce, and accused the meeting its demands from the demands of the United Nations truce.
Rejecting the Persian project
Activists in Yemen said they reject the continuation or extension of the UN-brokered truce. Abu Mohammed, a Yemeni activist, said on his Twitter account: The truce that the UN is seeking to extend is not out of place, as it is only a dead letter, he said, stressing that the beneficiary of it is the Houthi terrorist militia, and that the continuation of the truce in its current form and the non-commitment of the Houthi militia are involved in killing Yemenis.
Rashid Al Rashid tweeted: The security truce is fragile and is being used by Iran’s Houthi gangs for the purpose of killing civilians in the country, he said, adding that Yemenis will not submit to Houthi militias and continue to reject the Persian project in the country.
