Angelina Jolie sues Brad Pitt for $250 million
The actress is claiming damages from her ex-husband over the sale of their property in the south of France.
New twist in the divorce proceedings between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Despite the conclusion of their divorce in 2016, the ex-spouses still clash in a showdown over the terms of the custody of their six children as well as the distribution of their properties. One of them: their estate in the south of France, the Château de Miraval.
People magazine reveals that actress Angelina Jolie is seeking $250 million in damages over the distribution of their Miraval estate. Angelina Jolie’s lawyers, through her representatives, the Nouvel company, have thus declared that Brad Pitt: “has developed a plan so far successful to take control [du château]”. The documents indicate that the actor would have “frozen Nouvel out of the Château de Miraval and treats it as his personal fief.”
A “silence clause”
The legal filing also states that Angelina Jolie “would have negotiated for months with Brad Pitt to sell him half of the winery”. They point out that Brad Pitt “demanded at the last minute onerous and irrelevant conditions, including a provision to prohibit Angelina Jolie from speaking publicly about the events that led to the breakdown of their marriage”. Among these conditions, a “silence clause” that the actress would not have wanted to sign.
The Château de Miraval, located in the town of Correns, in the Var region, has been owned by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt since 2011. The couple bought the estate and its vineyard, of which they shared the exclusivity with Marc Perrin, winemaker . In 2021, Angelina Jolie sold her shares to winery Tenute del Mondo. Brad Pitt, meanwhile, still owns his shares, through his company Mondo Bongo.
