Controlled Fire in 39-Story Residential Tower in Sharjah


Civil Defense forces and Sharjah Police General Command teams successfully controlled a fire that broke out on Friday in a 39-story residential tower in the Nahda area.

This came after a rapid response by the Civil Defense and Sharjah Police, which enabled the rescue of a large number of individuals and prevented the flames from spreading throughout the entire tower.

The incident resulted in 5 fatalities, while 156 individuals of various nationalities, including children, were accommodated.

Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased due to the fire, wishing speedy recovery to the injured.

He stated that a report was received by the Sharjah Police Operations Room regarding a fire in one of the residential towers in the Nahda area of Sharjah. Consequently, all specialized teams of the Sharjah Civil Defense and Sharjah Police General Command were dispatched and managed their operations accordingly. The fire was swiftly extinguished, but the smoke inhalation led to choking and the death of 5 individuals, while 17 cases are currently receiving urgent medical care, with 27 cases discharged from the hospital after receiving necessary treatment, totaling 44 cases.

He added that in collaboration with the strategic partner, the Red Crescent Authority, they were able to accommodate 156 individuals of various nationalities in one of the emirate’s hotels. All necessary medical examinations were conducted to ensure their safety, and comprehensive support was provided to the affected individuals by specialized police departments and strategic partners.

 

Major General Saif Al Shamsi emphasized the importance of awareness about fire causes and taking all preventive safety measures by both property owners and tenants to minimize unfortunate incidents. He stressed that safeguarding lives and properties is a shared responsibility that everyone should take seriously.
