Intense efforts to contain raging wildfire in California

California fire officials have reported that the largest wildfire currently burning in the United States has spread to an area of nearly 600 square miles as of Tuesday morning.

More than five thousand firefighters from various parts of California and other states are working around the clock to extinguish the Park Fire, which is raging in the Central Valley about 90 miles north of Sacramento, the state capital.

Officials stated that the fire has scorched 383,600 acres, making it the fifth-largest wildfire in California’s history, according to Reuters. Dan Collins, the fire team leader with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, warned that the Park Fire is spreading rapidly, fueled by dry grass, shrubs, and timber.

Firefighting officials said that the Park Fire, which was only 14% contained as of Tuesday, has forced more than 4,000 people to evacuate their homes and has destroyed or damaged over 192 structures. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
