Iran – The son of a pro-Raisi party leader sentenced to 5 years in prison
An Iranian court has sentenced the son of the leader of a radical Iranian fundamentalist party to five years in prison after convicting him of acting against national security.
“Mehdi Mir Salim was sentenced to five years in prison for acting against Iran’s national security,” Masoud Staychi, spokesman for the Iranian judiciary, said Wednesday.
Mahdi is the son of radical Iranian MP Mostafa Mir Salim, and the leader of the Islamic “coalition”; One of the most prominent radical parties supporting the current president, Ebrahim Raisi.
At a press conference, Stacey explained that Mahdi is in the prison like other prisoners and is sometimes granted leave to receive treatment.
In mid-July, Iranian state media reported that Mehdi Mir Salim was arrested in Tehran, accused of collaborating with the Iranian opposition People’s Mujahedeen.
On July 18th, Mustafa Mir Salim confirmed the arrest of his son Mahdi. “The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran took advantage of his son’s weakness and tried to get information from him,” he said.
“Due to his lack of any secret information, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran did not get any information from him,” he said.
The leader of the Islamist party Islamic Coalition Party also pointed out that his son has suffered from mental and physical problems since his birth.
Reformist media said Mehdi was arrested on charges of espionage and initially transferred to Evin prison north of Tehran.
