PSG: Kylian Mbappé confirms Macron’s call

A presidential phone call and a club facing financial responsibilities: PSG star striker Kylian Mbappé, on probation with the French team, said staying at the Paris club was “his only option.”

Kylian Mbappé, who was present in his capacity as captain of the French team at the match watch conference against Gibraltar, in the Euro-2024 qualifiers, spoke about his personal fate. “I’ve already answered, I said my goal is to continue, to stay at the club, that’s my only option. I didn’t think that a letter could kill or offend anyone,” the 2018 world champion said of a letter sent Monday to Paris officials informing them of his decision not to activate the option for another year at PSG.

He was also asked about PSG’s reaction, which says it is now ready to sell it as early as this summer if it persists in its desire not to extend its lease in Paris. The player replied that he was not “shocked.” “No, there’s not much that shocks me,” he said.

He also denied having parasitized the Blue Rally by sending his letter four days before an international match. “I accept everything, people can talk, they can criticize, I understand,” he said. People don’t have all the ins and outs. I know why I do what I do and I say what I say. There’s no problem with that.”

“I have a responsibility as a captain, it’s not a few sounds that will drive me away from that responsibility. It’s not my temper to run away,” he said.

Mbappé was also arrested about Macron’s reaction on Wednesday, after the head of state said he would “try to push” him to stay at PSG.
