Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives expresses concern over developments in Dhi Qar

Mohammed Al-Halbousi, president of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, expressed his concern over the developments in Dhi Qar province and the deaths and injuries during bloody clashes between demonstrators and security forces.

In a tweet, Al-Halbousi said: “Dhi Qar… We appreciate the prime minister’s decision to appoint one of the loyal national leaders, Lieutenant General Abdul Ghani Al-Asadi, as governor of the crisis management and to form an advisory council to follow up on the reconstruction of the province.”

He added, “The parliament will follow the work of this council with interest and care, and we will work to maintain communication and support with them, to get out of the phase of tension to a real and achieved stability.”

Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi appointed Abdul Ghani Al-Asadi, head of the National Security Agency, as governor of Dhi Qar after accepting the resignation of governor Nadhem al-Waeli, who was one of the demonstrators’ most prominent demands.
