SUNA: Sudan announced a national state of emergency for three months after the overflows


State news agency SUNA declared on Saturday that the Security and Defense Council of Sudan announced a national state of emergency for three months after the overflows that have killed 99 people this year and considered Sudan as a natural disaster zone.

According to SUNA, the Sudanese minister of labor and social development reported that besides the deaths, this year the overflows have wounded 46 people, damaged on more than half a million people, and provoked the total and partial breakdown of more than 100,000 homes.

Minister Lena el-Sheikh said that the rates of overflows and rain for this year passed the records introduced during the years 1946 and 1988, and there are expectations of continued increasing indicators.

SUNA also reported that the council also declared the creation of a supreme committee directed by the ministry of labor and social development to treat the consequences of the overflows for the fall of 2020.
