The UAE Begins Repairing Destroyed Water Lines in Gaza

The project is part of the “The Gallant Knight 3” operation funded by the UAE under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Abu Dhabi – The UAE began today, Wednesday, implementing a project to repair destroyed water lines in the Gaza Strip, which has been witnessing an Israeli war for about 10 months. This initiative adds to many others launched by Abu Dhabi since the outbreak of the war in Gaza to alleviate the humanitarian disaster in the region.

This project is part of the “The Gallant Knight 3” operation, funded by the UAE in collaboration with the Khan Younis Municipality and the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility. It was launched on November 5, 2023, under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to the official UAE news agency.

The project is supervised by a specialized company to deliver water to the residents of the province, who suffer from difficulty accessing water due to the collapse of infrastructure and the destruction of networks and wells in various areas.

According to the same source, the “The Gallant Knight 3” operation aims to provide water to all areas through humanitarian projects, especially densely populated areas housing a large number of displaced people, whose number has reached 900,000 in Khan Younis.

The UAE funding for the municipality aims to repair the water lines and pump water to them, in addition to continuing the campaign to distribute water and tankers to various shelters, benefiting 70,000 people.

Khan Younis city suffers from a water shortage after the total destruction of 25 wells and the partial destruction of 12 others during the events in the city. The damage to the main networks reaches 70%, hindering the provision of water to thousands of Palestinian families in the region, increasing the risk of epidemics and diseases.

Since the start of the “The Gallant Knight 3” operation, the UAE has sent 100 humanitarian aid convoys to Gaza, the first of which was sent on November 24, 2023.

The convoys transported over 20,000 tons of materials carried by nearly 1,000 trucks through the Rafah crossing. Additionally, four more convoys were sent after the Rafah invasion last May, carrying about 320 tons of materials, including shelter tents and food parcels for the displaced and affected people, as well as urgent medical aid for the health sector, exceeding 16 tons.

The UAE is making efforts to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s residents and has been among the first to extend a helping hand to the Palestinians by sending tons of aid, welcoming wounded children and cancer patients to its hospitals, and sending a field hospital and a floating hospital to provide medical support to war victims, pending the creation of humanitarian corridors with the continued closure of the Rafah crossing.

The first Emirati aid convoy reached the Gaza Strip by land on April 9, carrying over 370 tons of food, medical supplies, children’s nutritional supplements, clothing, and shelter materials.

The total humanitarian aid sent by Abu Dhabi to northern Gaza by land via the Kerem Shalom crossing and by air through the “Birds of Good” operation reached about 2,102 tons during Ramadan, under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The UAE Ministry of Defense also carried out the 29th aerial drop operation of humanitarian and relief aid to northern Gaza in collaboration with Egyptian air forces during Eid al-Fitr, including “Eid clothing packages” containing clothes, shoes, toys, sweets, and various products for all family members.

The drop was carried out over isolated areas in northern Gaza, inaccessible otherwise, with five planes carrying 85 tons of food and relief supplies, bringing the total aid dropped by Emirati and Egyptian planes since the start of the “Birds of Good” operation on November 5, 2023, to 1,732 tons, according to the UAE Ministry of Defense.
