‘The UAE Stands with You, Lebanon’: A Humanitarian Gesture to Support War Victims

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has directed the allocation of $100 million to a campaign supporting Lebanon, while the UAE has initially sent more than 200 tons of humanitarian aid.

The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has ordered the dispatch of an urgent relief package worth $30 million to Lebanese people forced to flee due to intense Israeli bombardment. Today, Abu Dhabi launched a massive campaign to support Lebanon titled “The UAE Stands with You, Lebanon,” a humanitarian gesture that is expected to provide a significant boost to efforts to resolve the escalating crisis.

The UAE’s campaign to support Lebanon involves the participation of the community, institutions, and government agencies, following the directives of Sheikh Mohammed, according to the Emirati news agency “WAM.”

According to the same source, the value of the campaign, which runs from October 8 to 21, is $100 million. Today, the UAE also organized six flights carrying approximately 205 tons of food aid, medical supplies, and shelter equipment.

This is not the first time the UAE has taken the lead in offering support to victims of wars, regional conflicts, or natural disasters. Its various initiatives to mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza highlight the critical importance it places on this issue.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the representative of the ruler in the Al Dhafra region and the chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, stated that “the President’s directives to launch a relief campaign to support the Lebanese people are part of ongoing humanitarian initiatives towards our brothers in Lebanon,” adding that “this gesture reflects the UAE’s growing role in providing humanitarian and developmental assistance to brotherly and friendly nations.”

He clarified that “the current situation in Lebanon requires the concerted efforts of all to mitigate its humanitarian consequences on the affected individuals and to stand by them until their current circumstances improve.”

He added, “We have become accustomed to seeing the people of the UAE and residents of this country respond significantly to such campaigns, demonstrating solidarity with their brothers in humanity. Therefore, we are confident that the campaign will achieve its goals and make the desired impact in humanitarian relief efforts for the benefit of our brothers in Lebanon.”

Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza, the UAE has sent dozens of tons of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza as part of the “Generous Knight 3” campaign and has made diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire in the conflict.

The UAE has also played a prominent role in assisting those injured in the war on Gaza by establishing a field hospital in the Palestinian territory, as well as sending a floating hospital equipped with the latest medical devices off the coast of the Egyptian city of Al Arish.

Recently, Emirati hospitals have welcomed dozens of Palestinian children who arrived in the country with their families for treatment as part of a humanitarian initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, aimed at hosting around one thousand Palestinian children.

In late August, Abu Dhabi supported the polio vaccination campaign in Gaza with about $5 million on the President’s directives.

The UAE’s support for the victims of the ongoing conflict in Lebanon recalls Sheikh Mohammed‘s directives given just days after the war broke out in Gaza to allocate $20 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as part of his efforts to help it cope with the crisis.

Since September 23, Israel has been conducting intense airstrikes on Lebanon, resulting in over two thousand deaths and approximately ten thousand injuries, according to the latest toll from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
