Violations of the Tripoli militias…A cry for human rights that seeks to respond to priorities


A human rights cry is raised against the horrific legacy of the militias who invested in the chaos that prevails in Libya and committed horrific violations against the population, without legal accountability.

Horrific crimes that included all kinds of attacks, from kidnapping on the basis of identity to the detention of prisoners of conscience, terror of citizens and insecurity. Remarkably, their perpetrators have stayed away from accountability, using the unconstitutional “reconciliation” government as a cover for them.

The National Human Rights Commission in Libya, the new authority has warned of these violations, calling on her to work on the file of human rights, justice and national reconciliation, which she considered the most important files presented among the priorities of the new phase.

The head of the committee, Ahmed Abdel Hakim Hamzah, said in a statement seen by Al-Ain Al-Akhbariya, that one of the most important priorities at the current stage is to comprehensively address the issue of internally displaced and internally displaced persons interior of the country, ensuring the right of safe return and redress, and the handling of the case of prisoners of conscience, detainees and prisoners on the basis of their identity.

Hamzah called for addressing the human rights record and establishing the rule of law, aligning government policies with human rights standards, and strengthening the guarantee, preservation and protection of rights and fundamental freedoms, through the government decisions and policies that the government intends to adopt.

Tripoli prisons

The issue of prisons and pre-trial detention centers is not far from the appeal of the National Human Rights Commission, which calls for the development of a national strategy for reform of penitentiary establishments and rehabilitation, in accordance with the stipulations of Law No. 5 of 2005, and in accordance with relevant international standards and covenants, provided that is placed at the forefront of the priorities of the Ministry of Justice in their future tasks.

The human rights organization highlighted the security chaos in Tripoli, considering that the new authority must reform the security sector in accordance with human rights standards, and in a way that contributes to the achievement of the rule of law, restoring discipline and professionalism in the structures, units and agencies of the Ministry of the Interior.

She stressed the need to launch a reparation and compensation project for the affected people, in particular for the displaced and displaced people from the south and southwest regions of Tripoli and the western region, and to initiate meetings and social meetings with all municipalities, elders and national reconciliation councils, to prepare and organize a national reconciliation forum, to be held in the city of Ghadames because of their national symbolism for all people Libyan.

Kidnapping crimes

Recently, kidnappings on the basis of identity and political affiliation have spread to the suburbs and cities of Tripoli, including the angry cry that the chairman of the board of the municipality of Sabratha, Ramzi Masoud, launched a few days ago, against the militias which took control of the city’s capabilities and sowed terror among the safes, revealing the continued violations of the militias, the most recent of which was the kidnapping of two Libyans, namely : Muhammad Miftah Muhammad Abu Sabie, and Mustafa Miftah Muhammad Abu Subay, by one of the militiamen who broke into their home and took them to an unknown destination.

He pointed out that “to this day, the municipality suffers from the control of the armed militias over the city’s capacities and the spread of terror in the souls of the vault, the injustice having exceeded their scope and reached them end “, accusing the responsibility of these criminal acts. to the Interior and Defense ministries of the government of Fayez al-Sarraj, the Brotherhood.

However, the militias controlling the city retaliated against the President of the Directing Council and forced the Council members to issue a subsequent statement, in which they denied the confidence of the official who expressed his anger at the continuing violations by citizens.

In 2020, thousands of Libyan families were forced to leave their homes in the coastal towns of Sabratha, Surman and Ajilat, west of Tripoli, after an attack by Syrian mercenaries backed by Turkish drones.

The militias have committed a number of crimes, including storming prisons containing ISIS operatives and leaders, liberating them, destroying towns and burning down their institutions.

 Last month, armed militias belonging to the interior ministry of the illegal National Accord government unearthed shrines and destroyed historic monuments in the town of Sorman, 60 kilometers west of Tripoli.
