With New UAE Mediation, Russia and Ukraine Prepare to Exchange 90 Prisoners

According to “Bloomberg,” citing a knowledgeable source, Russia and Ukraine will exchange 90 prisoners of war today, Wednesday, in a deal mediated by the United Arab Emirates.

Last week, Ukrainian media reported that the Parliament’s Human Rights Commissioner, Dmytro Lubinets, stated that the government plans, with the help of the UAE, a “significant” prisoner exchange with Russia soon, according to Reuters.

Russia and Ukraine have conducted several prisoner exchanges during the ongoing 27-month war, which began with a Russian military operation in its neighboring former Soviet state.

In June, Russia and Ukraine exchanged 90 prisoners in the latest swap, also mediated by the UAE.

During the previous exchange in June, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the UAE’s efforts continue to support all initiatives and efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict between the two countries. The ministry emphasized that “dialogue, de-escalation, and adopting the diplomatic path are the only ways to resolve the crisis and will help alleviate the resulting humanitarian impacts.”
