Significance of the Jordanian king’s decisions regarding Prince Hamzah bin Hussein
Within the past few hours, the Jordanian Royal Court announced the issuance of a royal decree approving a recommendation to restrict the communications, residence and movements of Prince Hamzah bin Hussein. This comes weeks after Prince Hamzah announced the renunciation of the Amir’s title.
Details of the royal decree
The details of the royal decree came from King Abdullah II, who directed it to the Jordanian family, saying: Prince Hamzah exhausted all chances to return to his senses and adhere to the course of our family. He concluded that Prince Hamzah will not change what he is.
He continued: “I will not allow anyone to advance their interests in the interest of the homeland, and I will not allow even my brother to be a cause for more concern in our homeland”.
Ignore all facts and evidence
The letter asserted: “My brother Hamzah continues to ignore all the facts and conclusive evidence, and to manipulate facts and events to reinforce his false narrative. Unfortunately, my brother truly believes what he claims, and the illusion he lives is not new. I and our Hashemite family have realized for many years that he has turned against his irresponsible pledges and actions aimed at spreading unrest, unconcerned with its consequences for our homeland and family”.
The king added in the letter: “He soon vows to return to the way he was lost, returning to the path he had followed for years; He offers his interests at home instead of being inspired by his family’s history and values. He lives in the stress of his preoccupations instead of being convinced of the breadth of his status and the space of respect, love and care we have provided for him. He ignores the facts, denies the constants, and assumes the role of the victim”.
The king asserted: “Over the past years, I have exercised the utmost tolerance, self-control and patience with my brother. I have sought him excuses in the hope that he will one day mature, and that I will find support and assistance in performing our duty to serve our fatherly people and protect our homeland and its interests”.
Abusive behavior
King Abdullah noted that Prince Hamzah “continued his offensive actions against me, his family’s history, and the state institutions that provide all forms of support and assistance to him and others. In spite of this, I chose to close my eyes on him and get out of the situation in which he placed himself. However, he has always preferred to treat everyone around him with suspicion and estrangement, to continue his role in stirring up trouble for our country, and to justify his inability to serve our country and provide realistic solutions to the challenges we face as fighters and targets”.
Maintaining Jordan’s stability
Mohammed Izz al-Din, an Arab affairs writer, said King Abdullah II’s decision is in the interest of the Jordanian people to protect their security and stability against attempts to sow discord and doubt, which Prince Hamza has aired in Jordan throughout the past period.
High risk to the state
The writer specializing in Arab affairs, added: The decision to restrict Prince Hamzah’s communications and movements stems from his irresponsible actions that harm the country’s security, especially since Prince Hamzah has become a major threat to the stability of the state and the ruling regime in Jordan. This requires action by King Abdullah II to confront these dangers and safeguard the state from any plots that harm its national security.
King Abdullah II’s message to his people clarified all matters related to the issue of sedition from its beginning to the end, and clarified all actions to protect the Jordanian state from the dangers of Prince Hamzah, he said, adding that King Abdullah II enjoys strong popular and Arab support for his efforts to preserve the situation in Jordan and confront any dangers facing his state.
Keeping Jordan safe
Abdul Moneim al-Awdat, chairman of the legal committee in the House of Representatives, said King Abdullah II’s message to the Jordanian people represents the highest level of openness and clarity and carries many meanings that need careful thought. He said the security and stability of Jordan is above any consideration the king has.
In televised remarks, the Jordanian MP added: “That the decisions and message of King Abdullah II have confirmed to all Jordanians that the head of the family and the head of the State are equal to everyone when it comes to Jordan’s soil, its security and the interests of its people, and that these decisions are a response to attempts to falsify the facts, distort the image and tamper with Jordan’s security and stability”.
