Lebanon is out of service after the interruption of telecommunications…
From banks to fuel to form governments to choose the president, the small country sleeps on one problem and wakes up on another. Lebanon suffers from disruptions to communication and internet networks throughout the country.
Out-of-service
Even communications, the strike by the workers and employees of the Lebanese Telecommunications Authority (OGERO) threatens to isolate Lebanon from the world, because it is the body that provides ground and Internet communications services between Lebanon and abroad.
Due to the financial crisis that has hit all sectors in Lebanon, the telecommunications sector is suffering from a shortage of diesel and a reduced ability to provide maintenance parts and other services.
While the employees’ strike has been going on for about a week, in conjunction with the stoppage of “Sintrals” providing the regions with the internet, and the reluctance of some employees to supply the main sectors with fuel to generate electricity, despite the mediation that started to settle between the Ministry of Communications and employees, but the crisis still exists.
Union strike
Shadi Nachabe, a Lebanese political analyst, said that the disruption is attributable to the strike organized by the Workers and Employees Union of the “Ogero” Telecommunications Authority, and to the stoppage of maintenance work. He noted that the strike resulted in a lack of coverage in several areas, as well as work at several communication exchanges in Beirut and Damour, south of the capital, and in Nabatieh, south of Lebanon.
The Lebanese analyst added that the Lebanese state suffers from an economic and financial crisis which makes it prone to serious structural shakes. This crisis has affected most state institutions and made them almost unemployed, which requires action to rescue the state from these severe crises.
