Abu Dhabi hosts the global elite to shape the future of clean energy
Under the theme “Towards a Clean and Secure Planet,” the sixteenth edition of the Global Future Energy Summit kicked off today, Tuesday, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC). This summit, considered the premier annual gathering in the field of future energy and sustainability, is sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), a leader in clean energy.
Commitment to COP28 goals
The summit runs for three days (April 16-18, 2024), focusing on achieving the agreed-upon agenda during the COP28 conference hosted by Dubai. The summit witnesses the largest knowledge exchange program in its history, with the participation of over 350 experts, policymakers, academics, and global futurists, offering their analyses on implementing the frameworks established by the conference through exploratory sessions and interactive forums.
Leadership in the energy sector
Lina Al-Sabbahi, General Manager of ARX Middle East and Summit Chairperson, spoke about the importance of the speaker platform as a meeting point for the brightest minds in the energy sector, where discussions and suggestions for achieving sustainability and renewable energy using the latest technologies, policy developments, and economic foundations are made. The summit reaffirms the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and global cooperation to improve the environment.
Supporting the green transition
The summit agenda includes six conferences covering topics such as solar energy, environmental waste, water, clean energy, climate and environment, and smart cities. It also includes forums on “Addressing the Rate of Global Warming” according to COP28 outcomes, in addition to green financing and electric mobility. The conference brings together prominent officials, policymakers, scientists, financiers, businessmen, and digital innovators, as well as advocates for addressing climate change.
Participants discuss how to attract new investments and develop innovative tools to bridge the gap in climate financing, enhance cooperation between the private sector, regulatory authorities, and governments. They also address increasing renewable energy productivity, improving energy efficiency, reducing methane emissions, and minimizing fossil fuel usage.
Day One: Focusing on Reducing Global Warming
The first day is held under the theme “Addressing the Rate of Global Warming,” with participation from experts such as Simon Burkebeck from the Boston Consulting Group and Mary Warlick from the International Energy Agency, who provide insights into achieving energy commitments and COP28 pledges.
The summit provides an opportunity for data and best practices exchange and tools to address common challenges towards a safer and more sustainable energy future, with discussion sessions hosting distinguished speakers in the field.
