While most European countries have been working for some time to restrict the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood, supporters of the organization have, over the past 12 months, sought acceptance in German society through social engagement and dialogue. Their goal is to make this ideology socially acceptable, according to a report issued a few days ago by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution (domestic intelligence) in the state of Hesse.

In Germany, the German Muslim Community (DMG), which is affiliated with numerous mosque associations and so-called Islamic centers across the country, is the largest organization representing the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The report also warned of the Muslim Brotherhood‘s activities, stating that the group seeks to expand its influence through political participation in line with Germany’s laws but also aims to undermine the protection of the free democratic system in the long term.
According to the report, the Brotherhood aims to establish a state aligned with their interpretation of Islamic Sharia, with restrictions on women’s and religious minorities’ rights, as well as limitations on freedom of the press, expression, and religion.

This also includes advocating for certain forms of violence, such as armed jihad. Violent and terrorist means are seen as legitimate, and some Brotherhood figures even support the use of corporal punishment, according to German intelligence.
For the first time, the German intelligence report warned of a clear structure of the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe. It noted that “the Brotherhood has a widespread network in Europe, including Germany, through which its sympathizers and members spread the organization’s ideology and goals.”

The report also mentioned entities such as the Council of Muslims of Europe, the European Council of Muslim Imams, and the Fatwa Committee in Germany.
It adds: “To gradually infiltrate society, the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliated organizations utilize various educational programs,” before continuing, “Against this backdrop, there is a risk that the Brotherhood‘s ideology may continue to spread, especially as they increasingly address German-speaking audiences.”
