Donations to His Personal Account… Houthi Leader Sparks Ridicule with Call for Donations to Palestinians

A Houthi leader, described as an “Iranian agent,” sparked mockery on social media after calling for donations to support Palestinians in Gaza to be sent to his personal account.

Activists and human rights advocates stated that the call by Ali Nasser Qursha, a leader close to the Houthi militia head, to donate for Palestinians through his personal account reflects the Houthi movement’s efforts to extort money from Yemenis under various pretexts.

Activists noted that this appeal comes at a time when Yemeni citizens are facing severe economic hardship and wage suspensions, while the Houthi militia seizes oil revenues, taxes, and other incomes, in addition to levying various additional charges.

They questioned the credibility of this call, pointing out that the Houthis could directly donate from the funds they collect through various resources, instead of requesting donations from citizens already facing tough economic conditions.

They added that this campaign is part of the Houthi strategy to exploit the Palestinian cause to collect funds for their own interests and sectarian agendas, according to their statements.

Houthi leader Ali Nasser Qursha made this donation call in a tweet on his account on the platform (X).

It should be noted that the Houthi militia has taken advantage of recent events and the aggression on Gaza to generate financial gains by imposing levies under the guise of donations to support Palestine.

Yemenis fear the war in Gaza may affect their living conditions. Residents in Houthi-controlled areas expect these levies to lead to increased prices of basic commodities, as has been the case in past years, especially since levies are forcibly imposed on companies and shops, causing them significant losses and forcing them to raise the prices of their goods.
