The Yemen issue is on the list of priorities of the American administration
Although a hard road for Washington’s efforts to finish the conflict in Yemen, the fact that reaching a settlement away from military options for the war-ravaged country appears on the list of priorities of the Biden administration.
In this context, a State Department spokesperson informed Asharq Al-Awsat that the White House is set to reach an agreement that could end the war, affirming that there is no military solution for the conflict in Yemen.
Questioned if the US has an intention to substitute UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths after that his term is ended, the spokesperson confirmed that US President Joe Biden highly supports the envoy’s efforts in Yemen, and he indicating the Biden’s recent declaration: We strongly support Griffiths and his work, about the Washington strengthening of its diplomatic efforts to end the Yemen war that has caused a humanitarian and strategic catastrophe.
The spokesperson also said with a condition of anonymity that the main aim of the US is to approach the parties to reach a negotiated settlement that finishes the war and the pain of the Yemeni people.
In fact, the Biden administration is concentrated on the UN-led operation on making a ceasefire and growing humanitarian relief in Yemen.
The US Special Envoy, Timothy Lenderking, would work closely with Griffiths, according to the spokesperson. Otherwise, State Department Spokesman Ned Price affirmed in a recent press briefing, that the US was stepping up its diplomacy to end the war in Yemen.
Price also said: The main focus of our efforts will be the diplomatic effort to end the war in Yemen via the UN-led process to impose a ceasefire, open humanitarian channels, and restore long-dormant peace talks, indicating that Washington was also in search of ways to improve support for Saudi Arabia’s stability, and to defend its territory against attacks.
