Disney will present its new movies in cinemas first

Disney revealed that all films that it intends to screen during the year’s end will be presented first in cinemas, casting doubt with certainty on those in the galleries that seek to attract the audience again.

The animated film “Encanto” is scheduled to come out to theaters on November 24th and will not be shown on Disney+’s video platform before December 24th.

Other films, such as Ridley Scott’s “The Last Duel”, Marvel Studios’ “Eternals” and Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story”, will be shown exclusively in theaters for at least 45 consecutive days.

This decision was very predictable because the giant studios have for some time launched a series of large productions, such as “Black Widow”, “Jungle Cruise” and “Cruella”, simultaneously on “Disney+” and in cinemas, depriving the latter of a portion of revenues.

Following the decision, Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney, accusing her of breaking a multi-million dollar contract.

Two years ago, Disney was producing content for movies and TV channels, and the entertainment giant went directly to its audience through streaming broadcasts and halls at will.

This phenomenon has been reinforced by the pandemic and even by the mutant Delta, which is currently spreading.

In mid-August, during the presentation of the group’s financial results, company director Bob Chapek recalled Disney’s resilient strategy to “follow consumers wherever they are,” especially when “the halls reopen, the public will be reluctant to return.”

Warner Brothers Studios have been criticized for deciding to show their new 2021 films on their platform HBO Max, even though they subsequently pledged to show their work exclusively in theaters within 45 days next year.
