Turkey’s presidency responds to news of Erdoğan’s illness
The Turkish presidency has responded to allegations of “deteriorating health” of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, accusing major media outlets of being behind “fake news” sites.
Turkish opposition newspaper Zaman noted that Erdogan’s health has worsened in recent times and may not be in power in 2023.
Presidential media officer Fakhreddine Alton responded to the claim exactly one week later, denying Erdogan’s reported “sick” status.

Fakhreddine Alton, who responded to the allegations in both Turkish and English, tweeted: “We used to think that fake news was a social media problem, but now we see that major media outlets have the same problem.”
He added: “Even big media can easily spread such lies, and this is a worrying situation. They are both lying.”
A few days ago, Alton also posted a short video showing President Erdogan playing basketball, Erdoğan appeared during the video throwing a ball into the basketball goal net, and Alton commented on the video saying: “Yes, we will continue with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”
