A Judge Opens the Doors of History for Trump.. Will America be Governed from Prison?

A US judge has opened the gates of history to former President Donald Trump with a decision that may allow for the first time to try ruling the United States from behind bars.

Juan Merchan said Tuesday that Trump, who plans to run in the next election, will be subject to a criminal trial on March 25, 2024 on charges of falsifying business records to conceal payment for the silence of porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

A Manhattan court announced the decision during a teleconference with Trump in Florida.

That means Trump will be on trial during the 2024 presidential primary, which he is seeking to rally Republican support.

Trump is currently the front-runner for the Republican nomination. Two sources told Reuters that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is scheduled to announce his intention to run on Wednesday.

Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 criminal charges of falsifying trade records.

The main purpose of today’s session was to formally inform Trump of an order preventing him from disclosing certain evidence to third parties, including the media and social media.

At the outset of the session, Juan Merchan asked Trump if he had a copy of the order. “Yes, I do,” Trump said.

Prosecutors said the order preventing him from disclosing certain evidence was necessary because of Trump’s history of using social media as a platform to attack others and the risk of witnesses being harassed.

As much as the resolution allows for a U.S. prison sentence, the proceedings may affect the chances of the top Republican nominee, but it’s up to months to find out.

Trump supporters see the entire trial as an attempt to stop him from running or obstructing his march to the White House – which could add impetus to the veteran leader’s fervor for his loyalists.

Despite the issue raised, Trump led U.S. President Joe Biden in a Washington Post/ABC poll earlier this month by seven points.
