Calls to classify the Muslim Brotherhood Movement in Sudan as a Terrorist Group… Details

In recent times, there have been numerous calls to classify the Muslim Brotherhood movement on terrorism lists, following evidence and testimonies proving its involvement in sparking the war and attempting to drag tribes into it, turning it into a civil war.

Shihab Ibrahim, a leader in the Forces for Freedom and Change, specifically the extremist wing, urged considering the movement as a “terrorist group.”

In a statement to the “Middle East” newspaper, the leader in the Alliance of Freedom and Change called not to be satisfied with the sanctions imposed on the Secretary-General of the Islamic Movement, Ali Karti, and to classify the movement as a “terrorist group.”

On his part, Khaled Omar Youssef, a leader in the Forces for Freedom and Change, considered that the U.S. sanctions against Ali Karti confirm the involvement of the “third party” in the war that has been ongoing for the past six months between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Omar, who served as the Minister of the Cabinet in Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok’s government, according to a statement posted on his account on the ‘X’ platform two days ago, said that the sanctions, for the first time, included a “third party” other than the warring parties, namely the Islamic Movement, represented by its current leader, Ali Ahmed Karti. He pointed out that “the sanctions confirm the involvement of elements of the former regime in the disaster that our country is currently experiencing.”

The United States imposed new sanctions two days ago related to Sudan, targeting former Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Karti, a prominent leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and a key figure in Omar al-Bashir‘s regime.

The United States added in a statement that Karti, along with other Sudanese Islamists, is working to hinder efforts to reach a ceasefire to end the current war between the Sudanese armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese civilian opposition. They are also attempting to recruit fighters and arm them to expand the conflict, according to CNN.
