iraq… The coordination framework hold onto the government candidate; details
Iraqi political sources said: In a meeting held Thursday, the Coordinating Framework Forces confirmed its adherence to its candidate for the presidency of the next government, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, who is categorically rejected by the Sadrist movement. Fatah Alliance member, Mahmoud Al-Hayani, explained the possibility of changing the candidate of the Coordinating Framework for the prime minister to another candidate.
Al-Hayani said in a press statement yesterday to Baghdad Today: “The Sadrist movement believes that the candidate of the Framework, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, is affiliated with the state of law, which is why the movement rejects him, and this is clear from the tweets of Saleh Mohammed Al-Iraqi, known as Minister of Al-Sadr”.
“It is possible to replace al-Sudani with another candidate, but this cannot happen without a dialog and a meeting to find a solution”, he said.
Al-Hayani continued: It is possible to dissolve parliament and go to a re-run of elections. He emphasized that the framework is not against a re-election, but there must be a dialog leading to solutions.
The personality of Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani represents a major point of contention between the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement. Supporters of the latter believe that the proposed prime minister is affiliated with Nouri al-Maliki, the most prominent opponent of Muqtada al-Sadr, the movement’s leader.
