Kremlin Accuses Ukraine of Undermining Trump’s Peace Efforts
The Kremlin said on Thursday that Ukraine was undermining US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts by attacking Russian oil refineries, while Moscow has yet to formally announce its agreement to the US proposal for a truce covering energy facilities.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Kyiv “continues to carry out attacks on these facilities”, which he described as seriously at odds with the peace efforts of the United States and American negotiators working actively to launch a peace process, according to Agence France-Presse.
Earlier, Russia had welcomed Trump’s proposal to halt reciprocal strikes on Russian and Ukrainian energy facilities, calling it a “good idea”, after the US president announced that both countries had agreed to it.
“We have seen what President Trump posted. We consider it a good idea, a positive initiative,” Peskov said during his daily press briefing, adding: “We always support peaceful solutions.”
Trump said Ukraine and Russia had pledged not to target each other’s energy infrastructure. His announcement came a day after he criticised Kyiv over its attacks on Russian oil refineries.
