Morocco expressed its regrets over Spain’s hosting of Polisario leader

Morocco showed its regret about Spain’s welcoming of the chief of the Polisario Front Brahim Ghali, who is accused of making serious war crimes and violent human rights violations.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry called the Spanish ambassador to transfer the government’s regret about Spain’s decision to welcome Ghali for medical treatment. It also reported that Spain’s position in inconsistent with the spirit of partnership and good neighborliness. The ministry added on Sunday that Morocco wants an explanation of Spain’s stance.

On its part, the Spanish foreign ministry stated on Thursday that Ghali is being treated for COVID-19 and had been transferred to Spain for strictly humanitarian reasons. In this context, Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya said at a press conference Friday: This will not obstruct or trouble the excellent relations Spain has with Morocco. She also confirmed that Rabat is a special partner to Madrid economically and politically, and this would not change.

It should indicate that Ghali is in a Spanish northern city with a false Algerian identity that apparently was used to avoid reactivating an ancient arrest notice. Moreover, Spanish victims of terrorist acts committed by Polisario separatists called for the immediate arrest of Ghali, who was admitted to a hospital in Logrono, near Zaragoza, under a false identity and with forged documents to escape Spanish justice.

Acavite denounced the act

Also, a statement published by the Canary Association of Victims of Terrorism (Acavite) criticized his illegal entry to Spain. Ghali is accused of assassinations against Canarian workers in the Sahara region, and also of giving order for murders, mass kidnappings and disappearances of crews on the high seas of Canarian sailors in the period between 1973 and late 1986, in what the statement said.

Otherwise, Acavite that is supported by the National Federation of Victims of Spain, gathered the relatives of more than 300 victims of Polisario terrorism. It condemned the decision of the Spanish authorities to authorize the illegal admission and hospitalization in a public hospital of a notorious criminal who killed Spanish citizens.
