Officials: The world has no choice but to classify Houthi militias as terrorists to save what is left of Yemen

Claims are mounting that the activities of Houthi militias have been categorized as terrorist. With all the threats that the word implies to the security and stability of Yemen and the region as a whole.

The terrorist nature of the activities of these militias is confirmed by their approach, starting with a coup against legitimacy and continuing to threaten civilians in Yemen with ballistic missiles and drones.

It has a record of aggressive crimes, hijacking and pirating ships, driving shipping and international commerce to danger and issuing unlawful death and execution sentences.

Houthi crimes and violations

For all its hostile practices and violations, the world has no choice but to designate the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization.

“Legitimacy and the coalition have no choice but to push internationally to classify the Houthis as terrorists in order to provide relief to the rest of Yemen”, said Ahmed Rabi, undersecretary of the Yemeni Ministry of Information.

He referred to the horrors of the crimes committed by militias that are against humanity, such as the siege of cities, the imprisonment of civilians, and the destruction of civilian facilities. He also pointed to the militias’ attempts to mine land and sea, and threaten maritime navigation and the piracy of commercial ships. This has crossed Yemen’s borders, where civilians in neighboring countries have been exposed to danger through their planes of bombs.

Iranian danger in Yemen

In order to achieve total stability in the region and the safety of international navigation, the international community must recognize the Iranian danger in Yemen through its proxy Houthi, Rabi said. This is especially true in light of the repercussions of Tehran’s intervention in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, as well as attempts to spread terrorism in the region, and the same thing that Houthi militias are doing in Yemen, he said.

Aid to the people remains a relative dose of relief, but the people’s suffering can only be ended by a comprehensive and effective remedy, which, in his view, lies in the categorization of the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization and the military resolve to end the coup.

Child recruitment

The fact that Houthi militias expelled children from school and sent them to the front lines after recruiting them underscores the danger these groups pose to Yemen’s future.
Human rights activists have issued wide appeals to the international community to provide relief to these children, citing a UN report published that uncovered the aggressions of terrorist militias, including their exploitation of educational activities to inculcate hostile ideas in children’s minds and urge them to fight.

The report mentioned the killing of 1,406 children who were pushed by the Houthis to fight in the battlefields in 2020 and 562 children in 2021, noting that they were between the ages of 10 and 17 years and most of them were killed in the provinces of Amran, Dhamar, al-Hudaydah, and Sanaa

Human rights activists called on the world to act to deter such violations and punish their leaders for committing crimes against humanity.
