Sudanese analyst: the country is suffering from major disruptions and everyone is required to overcome the obstacles

The situation in Sudan remains unclear as an agreement to end the political crisis in Sudan awaits the call for protests on an anniversary that did not end during the past four years without deaths and injuries, amid fears that the country will return to square zero again. The center of Khartoum turned into a sort of military barracks as roads leading to the Republican Palace and the general command of the army saw heavy security; “Authorities have also closed one of the main bridges linking Khartoum to Khartoum city by sea, ahead of new protests planned by resistance committees and other political and professional forces on Thursday, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the demonstration that toppled the regime of Omar al-Bashir.”

New Delay

Yesterday evening, the forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change announced the postponement of the signing of the final political agreement between the Sudanese parties, which was scheduled on Thursday, due to the joint military talks. This is the second postponement of the signing of the final political agreement that the parties had agreed to sign on April 6, after it was scheduled for the first of the same month, due to disagreements between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

April 6th Anniversary

The Declaration of Freedom and Change also called for demonstrations in the capital and the provinces to mark April 6th, the anniversary of the popular revolution that toppled former President Gaafar Nimeiry in 1985, and the commemoration of the sit-in in front of the army headquarters in 2019, which overthrew deposed President Omar al-Bashir.

Blur surrounding

Sudanese journalist Mohamed Al-Tayeb says that there is a blur surrounding the current political process to resolve the crisis that the country has been living for 18 months. For the second time, the parties involved in the political process announced the postponement of the signing of the final agreement on the handover of power to the civilians, which was scheduled for Thursday, pointing out that there are major complications surrounding the ongoing negotiations on the process of integrating rapid support into the army; with differences between the two sides on the mechanisms and schedule of integration and aspects related to command and control.

The Sudanese analyst added that Sudan suffers from major turmoil in the absence of an executive government after the dismissal of the government of Abdalla Hamdok, due to the measures taken by the army on October 25th, 2021. He explained that there is a state of stagnation in the political scene in the country, explaining that everyone is required to redouble their efforts in order to overcome the remaining hurdle in order to contribute to the signing of the agreement “as soon as possible.”
