The mental health of those born in the nineties is worse than any other generation… What is the relationship with social media?

Recent studies have shown that the mental health of the nineties generation is worse than previous generations.

A study conducted by researchers from the University of Sydney in Australia found that the nineties generation is more prone to depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders than older generations.

The study added that the mental health issues for this generation do not improve as they age, unlike previous generations.

The Australian study mentioned that people born in the nineties have worse mental health than any previous generation.

Researchers from the university used surveys to track the mental health of nearly 30,000 adults over a period of 10 years (between 2010 and 2020). The study was published in the journal “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.”

The scientists concluded that “the nineties generation was not only the worst in terms of mental health but also showed little improvement in their emotional problems during the study period, unlike older generations.”

Researchers suggest that “social media, which made participants feel they were not good enough, is primarily responsible for their mental health issues.”

Dr. Peter Baldwin, one of the lead researchers at the Black Dog Institute, said, “Technology is largely responsible.”

He explained that people born in the eighties had the internet, but those born in the nineties have social media, which brought with it a “flood” of social comparisons that severely affect mental health.

Tips to Improve Mental Health for the Nineties Generation: Getting an adequate amount of sleep, exercising regularly, and following a healthy diet help improve mood and reduce stress. Spending time with friends and family also contributes to mental well-being.
