The Muslim Brotherhood Fuels Sudan’s War to Regain Power… How?

Nikolay Mladenov, Director General of the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, revealed that the current civil war in Sudan is being driven by the Muslim Brotherhood in an attempt to reclaim power and restore the old regime. He stated that the ongoing military rule, which is aligned with the Brotherhood, is a key reason for Sudan’s crises, particularly the failure to manage the country’s cultural and ethnic diversity.

During a discussion session titled “Sudan’s Reality Between Narrative and Power”, organized by the academy on Friday, Mladenov explained that marginalized regions such as Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, the Blue Nile, and Eastern Sudan have been excluded for over 62 years. He warned that Sudan has plunged into civil war with little hope of resolution, while also facing a debt crisis and disasters like mass displacement and climate change, which must all be addressed.
Sudanese journalist Abdel Moneim Suleiman echoed the view that the civil war is a means for the Muslim Brotherhood to regain control. He stressed that the ongoing military regime, in alliance with the Brotherhood, lies at the heart of Sudan’s instability and repeated that many regions have faced marginalization for more than six decades.

Suleiman also highlighted the contradictions in the statements of Sudanese military leaders, who, despite their alliance with the Brotherhood, claim they have no ties to the group, even admitting that their internal conflict stems from Brotherhood influence.
He added that those currently accusing the United Arab Emirates are the same actors leading the war and who have previously committed war crimes.
According to Suleiman, the current scene in Sudan demands more than just a ceasefire; it requires a comprehensive political process that ensures a return to civilian rule.

Igniting war and army destruction… New accusations haunt the Brotherhood in Sudan
warned that the Sudanese Armed Forces have essentially become a tool for the Muslim Brotherhood and criticized the international community’s approach. He noted that the European Union relies on unverifiable human rights reports, while the United States deals with the crisis through a “troika” made up of Norway, the UK, and the US. He added that the African Union and IGAD are powerless, though the AU should be credited for suspending Sudan’s membership following the 2021 coup.
Finally, Abdel Moneim Suleiman called on the international community to impose an immediate and decisive mechanism against the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan, asserting that the war will not end without such action. He also proposed holding a regional conference to classify the Sudanese Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.
