10 years prison against secret investor of the Brotherhood Abdul Basset Hamza

A Sudanese court sentenced Abdul Basset Hamza, the secret investor of the Brotherhood, to 10 years in prison on Monday after he was convicted of two counts of illicit wealth and money laundering.

The court, which is being held at a naval criminal complex north of Khartoum, sentenced Hamza to 5 years in prison for violating the law of illicit enrichment and the suspect, and another 5 years under the Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Act, to be served by the convict in succession.

The court’s judge said in the ruling that huge property, real estate, and shares in companies and investment projects were found in the defendant’s possession. He could not prove the source of these funds, which led to his conviction for illicit wealth and money laundering.

Hamza, known in Sudanese circles as a secret investor for the terrorist organization Brotherhood, was arrested last year after his funds were confiscated by the Commission for Disbanding, formed after the fall of the regime of Omar al-Bashir. He was put on trial last December.

Hamza is a man in the former Bashir regime who belongs to the Brotherhood and is involved in dozens of cases accused of misappropriating public funds.

Hamza soon ascended to the ranks of businessmen and financiers in a manner that stunned the Sudanese street. However, soon, the masks and the frequency of reliable reports reveal that the man represents one of the secret investors of the Brotherhood political movement, in a network of dozens.
