Al-Sadr announces Iraqi position on attacks on UAE… What did he say?
The leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, Muqtada Al-Sadr, condemned the attacks that targeted the United Arab Emirates recently, stressing his rejection of attempts to drag Iraq into a dangerous regional war.
In a statement published Thursday on his official Twitter account, al-Sadr said: After the escalating violence in Iraq by armed terrorist groups against the interests of the people and political blocs, some outlaw terrorists rushed to throw Iraq into a dangerous regional war by targeting a Gulf country under the pretext of ‘normalization’, under the pretext of the Yemen war, or whatever the problem is, he said.
Al-Sadr, who is holding consultations to form a new majority government, stressed that he “categorically rejects Iraq’s involvement in such conflicts,” despite his solidarity with those who demand an end to the Yemeni conflict and those who refuse normalization with Israel. He continued: “However, this is not about violence and fighting, but about dialog and understanding with regional countries, and it is not about putting at risk the sanctities of Iraq and its people. Iraq needs peace and prestige, and not following the orders of the outside world”.
Al-Sadr stressed the importance of Iraq not being a launching pad for attacks on neighboring countries and the region, adding: “The government must deal with the perpetrators seriously and decisively, otherwise it will be remiss and its silence may cause its consequences to be irreversible”.
The statement was in response to the recent attack on the UAE by drones claimed by the Iraqi al-Waad al-Haq Brigades.
