44 Houthi Violations of UN Truce in Yemen in 24 Hours

The Yemeni army announced that Houthi militias committed 44 violations of the UN truce in the last 24 hours in the fronts of Hajjah, Marib, al-Jawf and Taiz provinces.

The Yemeni army’s media center issued a statement saying the violations included 14 breaches on battlefronts west of Hajjah, 13 in the south, west and northwest of Marib, 13 in the Taiz axis front, four in the east of Hazm al-Jawf, and an attempt to infiltrate military sites south of Marib. The army heroes foiled the breaches.

Houthi’s militia fired rockets, artillery, various bullets and car bombs, killing three army heroes and wounding 11 others with live fire, the army said.

‏The statement said the militias have stepped up operations to create sites, dig trenches and shelters, especially on the fronts around Marib, in addition to deploying drones.

The Yemeni government’s military team arrived in Jordan on Sunday to discuss the issue of a ceasefire under the UN-brokered truce.

Upon arrival in Amman, Jordan, the military team held a meeting convened by the Office of the United Nations Special Envoy with a team of specialists from the office. The team affirmed the Yemeni government’s continued positive attitude in dealing with the truce.

Gen. Samir al-Sabri, head of the government’s military team, said in a statement that the meeting in Amman is supposed to put an end to hostilities and military actions that threaten the truce by Houthi militias.

He said the meeting of the military committee will discuss the consolidation of the truce, especially in military terms, after it witnessed many violations by Houthi militias, in terms of firing or marches or rockets on neighborhoods and residential cities, and the mobilization on the battlefronts.

This comes in light of the continued hostilities by the Houthi militias on all fronts and the continued military build-up, which reflects the intention of the Houthi militias to end the truce. This comes at the same time as the statements of the Houthi leaders to end the truce, in light of the manifest intransigence of the Houthi militias in opening the roads in Taiz and the commitment to implement the truce provisions, according to the statement.

Last month, the Yemeni government and Houthi militias agreed to set up a joint coordination room to de-escalate any escalation during the truce, during the second UN meeting in Amman, Jordan.

The humanitarian truce went into effect on April 2 and was renewed on June 2 for another two months.
