Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have stressed the importance of normalizing bilateral relations between their countries.

This came during a phone conversation between the two parties, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Republic Communication Service, read by Al Ain News.

The statement said that “Pashinyan congratulated Erdogan on the occasion of the Eid Al-Adha.”

“Erdogan, in turn, congratulated Pashinyan on the approach of Vardavar, one of the Armenian church celebrations,” the statement said.

He continued: “The two sides also stressed the importance they attach to the process of normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations, which will contribute to strengthening peace and stability in the region.”

On December 15, 2021, Turkey appointed its former ambassador to Washington, Serdar Klaige, and Armenia appointed its deputy speaker, Ruben Rubinyan, as special representatives for the normalization talks.
