Organizational failure; FIFA sues Qatar after World Cup

FIFA has entered a series of legal disputes with the Qatari authorities over relations between the two main organizers of the World Cup, which reached an all-time low as the tournament reaches its final stages.

Strained relationships

The British newspaper, Daily Mail, revealed that since the start of the tournament, FIFA has sent many legal messages to the Supreme Committee in Qatar, and pending official responses, it is understood that the legal letters are related to contractual issues that arose before and during the tournament, and will boil down to a battle over financial responsibility. The International Federation confirmed that Qatar has exploited fans financially and failed to honor its previous pledges, in addition to many other issues that must be resolved, which include other World Cup suppliers.

The newspaper continued: Tension between FIFA and the Supreme Committee was evident yesterday, Thursday, in their contradictory responses to reports of the death of a migrant worker in one of the resorts, as revealed by the Athletic newspaper. While FIFA said that they were “deeply saddened by this tragedy,” the Supreme Committee said that the incident took place on properties outside its jurisdiction and referred the matter to the Qatari government.

Organization failure

According to the British newspaper, the tense relations between FIFA officials and the Qatari government will cast a shadow over the Gulf state and show the world that Qatar has a dark side and its violations of workers’ rights will not stop at the World Cup.

It continued: Qatar violated its pledges to host World Cup fans, so staying in the fans’ village was inhumane, its cost was very high, and food prices were very high; Fans fled to neighboring countries to enjoy luxury accommodation and tourist attractions at much lower prices than those in Qatar.
