Two Killed and 3 Wounded in Al-Qaeda Attack in Yemen’s Abyan
Two Yemeni soldiers were killed and three others were wounded Monday in a new attack launched by the al-Qaeda terrorist organization in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
A Yemeni security source said the attack was caused by an improvised explosive device planted by al-Qaeda fighters that exploded near the town of Wadi al-Khayal in Al Mahfad directorate in the eastern part of the province on the Shabwah border.
According to the source, the remote-controlled bomb targeted a security patrol that was securing the town, killing two soldiers and wounding three others.
Meanwhile, the southern forces that are leading Operation Seham al-Sharq in the province announced they have dismantled improvised explosive devices planted by terrorists in Wadi Omran, east of Mudiyah district, east of Abyan.
Last week, three al-Qaeda terrorist operations targeted Security Belt and Southern Giants Brigades in Al Mahfad and Mudiyah, eastern Abyan, killing three soldiers and wounding 12 others.
On December 16th and 15th, the al-Qaeda terrorist organization launched three terrorist attacks targeting the Shabwah Defense Force, the security belt, the police and the Abyan axis, killing and wounding 11 southern forces.
Last November, a series of al-Qaeda improvised explosive device attacks in Shabwa and Abyan provinces killed and wounded 17 people, including a “major” officer. Two other senior officers survived the same terrorist bombings.
Southern forces have been leading Operation Seham al-Sharq since August 2022, despite al-Qaeda’s vow to launch a war of bombings and ambushes in the strategic province that extends to the outskirts of Yemen’s temporary capital, Aden.
