Discovery of the “largest snake in the world” .. weighing 200 kilograms and measuring 8 meters (photos) 

A Dutch biologist recently discovered the “largest snake in the world” and named it the “Northern Green Anaconda,” a unique species of snake characterized by many features.

Frérik Vonk, the Dutch biologist, explained that anacondas are giant snakes whose existence is closely linked to the protection of their natural environment, especially amidst the pressures of climate change affecting their region.

Websites like “Daily Mail” and “Independent” have provided some information about the largest snake in the world, stating:

• It was given the Latin name Eunectes akayima, meaning “Northern Green Anaconda.”
• The “giant anaconda” was discovered in the Amazon rainforests.
• The giant anaconda measures 26 feet (7.92 meters) in length and weighs 440 pounds (199.58 kilograms), with the potential to reach up to 500 kilograms in weight.
• Its head is the same size as a human’s head.
• There are four known species of anaconda, the largest being the Green Anaconda.
• The new species differs from the previously known South American Green Anaconda for 10 million years, genetically differing by 5.5%.
• Green Anacondas are found in South America, including Venezuela, Suriname, and French Guiana.
• The Green Anaconda, found in rivers and wetlands in South America, is known for its lightning-fast speed and its ability to extract life from its prey by coiling around it, suffocating it, and swallowing it whole.

So far, only one type of “Green Anaconda” (or giant) has been found in the Amazon region, but a new study published in the journal Diversity described the “Green Anaconda” as a distinct animal, not just one species.

Professor Jesus Rivas, the lead author of the study, explained that he first realized there was more than one type of Green Anaconda.

He said: “I have been studying the Anaconda for 32 years, so this raises questions about the number of other species we don’t know about. If such an animal goes unnoticed for many years, what about less discovered and studied animals and plants?”
