Brotherhood seeks to thwart new authority
Libyan politicians and experts say that the Brotherhood is trying, in collaboration with other political organizations, to thwart the work of the new Libyan authority.
The experts agreed in separate talks to Al-Ain News that the terrorist group “could resort to waging a war to obstruct the work of the new authority,” similar to the Libya Dawn war launched by Takfiri groups to overthrow parliament years ago.
Experts added that the Libyan presidential elections are the only way to exclude Islamist political groups that are clinging to obstructing the new authorities, because these groups know for sure that the election day will be the end of their confrontation of the scene in Libya.
The Turkish regime of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has demonstrated their desire to undermine the work of the new Libyan authority and to thwart the Libyan consensus through its support for extremist organizations, foremost among them the Brotherhood.
Building on the support of their ally, the terrorist group seeks to fabricate crises through its militias that undermine security in the west of the country and refuse to open the coastal road between the central cities of Sirte and Misrata.
Libyan political expert Othman Al-Badri said the failure of the political dialog “has become in the interest of many forces, not just the Brotherhood”. “Therefore, I am not surprised that the Brotherhood is allied with other forces that want to impede the dialog, given their agreement in the interest,” he said.
Al-Badri told Al-Ain News that the Brotherhood and other organizations “will not leave a way in order to disrupt the agreement unless they follow it, especially as conditions serve them.”
“We can avoid the Brotherhood’s attempt to unify the Libyan parliament and give confidence to the national unity government,” he said. “In this way, the Brotherhood is blocking the path of political Islam and things are not returning to the starting point.”
“The main factor in realizing the dream of Libyans is the unity of their word, the rejection of division, and the disapproval of calls and hate speech,” he said.
Al-Badri also said that the end of the Brotherhood is at hand, meaning that the next elections will be the end of this group if they are free and fair.
Libyan politician Nasser Al-Daessi said, “The breaths of the Brotherhood are still present in the political scene.”
Libyan political analyst Nasser Al-Zayani said the Brotherhood threat “remains as long as Turkey does not stop pumping arms and mercenaries”.
Al-Zayani told Al-Ain News that the amount of weapons arriving confirms that Turkey and the Brotherhood “will not retreat in Libya and could resort to igniting a Libya-style war to thwart the new Libyan authority.”
The Libyan people are required to support the political process to avert the specter of partition and civil war, he said, adding that “the ballot box is the last solution”.
Al-Zayani concluded by saying, “We call for dismantling the militias and laying the foundations for ensuring the fairness and transparency of the elections, away from the transformation of extremist currents to power.”
Last month, UN envoy to Libya Stephanie Williams said that the “Mohammed Al-manfi” list won the presidency of Libya’s new interim executive authority, and that Abdelhamid Al-Dabaiba won the premiership with 39 votes, compared to 34 for Aguila Saleh.
The new authority will lead the country until general elections are held later this year, 24 December 2021.
In 2014, extremist groups launched a military operation dubbed “Libya Dawn” to challenge the results of the Libyan parliament election and took over the capital Tripoli after destroying most of their vital installations, most of them Tripoli International Airport.
