Five months after sinking, the Houthis release the crew of the ship Eternity C

The Houthi militia released on Wednesday, through Omani mediation, eleven detained members of the crew of the ship “Eternity C”, five months after sinking it in a double attack.

The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it facilitated the return of the crew, composed of eleven individuals of Filipino and Indian nationalities, transferring them from Sanaa to Muscat on board a Royal Oman Air Force aircraft, in preparation for their return to their home countries.

The ministry explained that this step comes as part of the Sultanate of Oman’s ongoing humanitarian efforts related to the situation of the Eternity C crew in Yemen, expressing appreciation for the cooperation shown by the parties involved in completing these efforts.

The Philippine Secretary of Labor, Hans Leo Cacdac, expressed his government’s gratitude for Oman’s dedicated efforts, which have resulted in the release of the crew members ahead of their return to their country and families.

The Houthi militia had targeted the ship “Eternity C” on July 7, when it was sailing 49 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, in a double attack using remote-controlled boats and ballistic missiles, forcing the crew to jump into the water.

The crew of the Greek vessel consisted of twenty-one Filipinos and one Russian. The Houthis abducted eleven sailors, while another ship rescued about ten others who had remained in the water for more than twenty-four hours, according to international reports.
