Demirtaş from prison : There is no alternative to the struggle against Erdoğan

Selahattin Demirtaş, former co-chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, said that the Kurds will not back down from their democratic struggle in the country.

Demirtaş tweeted this from inside his prison, via his official Twitter account, followed by Al-Ain News on Friday.

“The only way to prevent provocations is to increase the struggle for democracy, solidarity and the search for peace,” the Kurdish opposition leader said.

Demirtaş, who has been in detention since 2016, expressed his hope that “a just, peaceful and stable society will be established where all those who are corrupt will be held accountable before a fair and impartial judiciary”.

Demirtaş’s comments come against the backdrop of an armed attack on the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the western city of Izmir, the capital of a state of the same name, which resulted in the death of Peoples Democratic Party employee Deniz Buiraz.

Legal conviction

Ten human rights organizations also condemned the killing of Deniz Bueraz in the attack.

According to the website of the opposition newspaper Sözcü on Friday, 10 human rights organizations issued a joint statement entitled “We Know Deniz’s Killer.. We will not give in to injustice,” she said, condemning the armed attack on the headquarters of the opposition party.

“The Turkish government is the reason for this, due to its provocative rhetoric against the opposition, especially the Peoples Democratic Party,” the groups said in their statement.

The Turkish government accuses the Peoples Democratic Party of working with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, which is designated a terrorist organization by Ankara.

The leader of the Turkish mafia, Sedat Peker, had earlier tweeted that the men of former Interior Minister Mehmet Agar, belonging to the “conservative” nationalist movement, were behind the attack.

“They are planning bigger attacks to create confusion and chaos and turn Turkey into a lake of blood,” he said; to cover up the scandals he has exposed in videos he has posted on YouTube for over a month.

The Constitutional Court is currently considering dissolving the Peoples Democratic Party and banning 451 party members from political participation.
